Pier 2 Peer: Shantré Pinkney

How does an artist synthesize interests in hip-hop, jazz and French New Wave cinema into a portfolio of storytelling about relationships? That’s just what filmmaker and photographer Shantré Pinkney has done. Pier 70’s Marcy Coburn interviews Shantré in this week’s “Pier 2 Peer.”

We were delighted to originally encounter Shantré via projects she worked on in the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood. “Lest We Forget” and “Invest. Preserve. Reclaim the Community.” are socially-driven projects confronting systemic racism. Shantré continues to explore these themes and more in her ongoing work. She also has a commercial practice, offering portraiture, fashion and real estate photography and video.
