Historic Building 12 Lift

Imagine lifting a two-story building, 6” at a time, until it is elevated 10’. And just to make things more interesting, the margin of error cannot exceed ½”! This is the feat of engineering and construction the team at Pier 70 has just completed with Building 12.

Building 12 was originally used for ship repair and construction during World War II. It is being renovated to house a market hall, production and office space, becoming the heart of the new Pier 70 development.

Years of planning have gone into the renovation of Building 12, and when complete, the entire structure will be lifted 10’ above its current location to accommodate anticipated sea level rise.
